Iran’s 16th RIFF announces documentary lineup

The 16th Resistance Int’l filmfest in Iran announces Documentary Competition lineup.

The 16th edition of the Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) in Iran has announced the lineup for the Documentary Competition.

The line-up includes ‘Kohanz Devotees’ by Majid Rastegar, ‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ by Reza Farahmand, ‘Badieh Memories’ by Sassan Fallahfar, ‘Fire in Golestan’ by Hojjatollah Eshaqi, and ‘Bullets’ by Morteza Payehshenas and Hossein Momen.

The doc competition list goes on with ‘Children of Night’ by Behrouz Nouranipour, ‘Mosul after Fire’ by Mahyar Zahed, ‘Mehdi, Kill Iraqi Force’ by Abdolreza Nematollahi, ‘Forgotten on Sinjar’ by Igal Hecht from Canada, and ‘Gaza’ by Garry Keane and Andrew, a coproduction of Ireland, Canada and Germany.

‘Women with Gunpowder Earrings’ received the award for best feature-length documentary at the first part of the festival, held in September. It tells the story of Nur, a female journalist who covers stories about Syrian and Iraqi women and children in war against the Daesh terrorists.

‘Gaza’ is a portrait of people attempting to lead meaningful lives, going beyond the reach of television news reports to reveal a world rich with eloquent and resilient characters.

‘Forgotten on Sinjar’ focuses on the overlooked and almost forgotten genocide of the Izadi minority. It sheds light on a remarkable story of Christians, Muslims and Jews, who came together to save women and children that the world had forgotten.

The 16th RIFF’s short documentaries are ‘Sangarban’ by Ayyoub Marvanipour, ‘Daddy Came’ by Siamak Mokhtari and Jamal Oud-Simin, ‘World Is Mine Al-Fuah’ by Asieh Jalali and Zeinab Khattat, and ‘Simulation of Mr. Yellow’ by Mahan Khomamipour.

The list also includes ‘Sirous’ by Reza Safi, ‘Mahrokh’ by Hamed Hashemi, ‘Kolsum’ by Abolfazl Golfam, ‘Cross’ by Ahmad Rahmanian, ‘My Body’ by Hossein Homayounfar, and ‘Socotra, the Invisible Island’ hailing from Qatar.

The first part of the 16th Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF), comprising Health Defenders and Festival of Festivals sections, wrapped up on September 27. The next part, to be held on November 21-27, coinciding with “Basij” week.

The RIFF, one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Iran, is dedicated to productions on wars and the repercussions of armed conflicts in the world.

It also puts a spotlight on the resistance of the Palestinian people against the Zionist regime and Daesh with their terrorist attacks in the region, as well as the world’s tyrants and their backing of Daesh.
